Who needs a Food Manager Certification in LOUISIANA?

All food facilities that prepare, handle, or serve unpackaged foods are required to have at least one Certified Food Manager (CFM) or Person in Charge, either an owner or an employee, who has successfully passed an approved and accredited food safety certification examination. The certification is valid for five (5) years from the date of original issuance.

Can the Food Manager exam be taken online?

To earn a LOUISIANA Food Manager Certification, you must take a proctored exam. This means that your final test must be taken at one of our testing locations near you. However, the course may be taken online.

How do I schedule the proctored exam?

As soon as you register and pay the certification fee, you will receive instructions for scheduling your exam within 24 hours.

How long is the proctored exam?

The test is 95 questions, and requires a 64% in order to pass.

It is highly recommended that you complete the online course and practice test, prior to taking the exam. If you do not pass the exam on the first try, please contact We are happy to offer a discounted rate if you need to take the test again.

How do I study for the final exam?

To study for the exam, we recommend purchasing the $80 Certification Package. This includes the Online Food Manager Training Course and Unlimited Practice Exams.
The course takes approximately 8 Hours to complete. You can start and stop as needed.

- Unit 1: Foodborne Illnesses and their Sources
- Unit 2: Safe Handling and the Flow of Food
- Unit 3: Equipment, Cleaning, and Pest Management
- Unit 4: Management Responsibilities

After you have completed this training course, you have the option of taking the Practice Test to prepare for your Proctored Exam. You can take the Practice Test as many times as desired. We also offer a Food Manager Manual and Review Study Guide for purchase.
